Diffuse Infiltrative Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Portal Vein Tumor Thrombosis Completely Cured by Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization: Case Report with 8-Year Follow-Up

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of liver cancer and its treatment options are determined by shape, liver function, loci, and stages of cancer. Diffuse type of infiltrative HCC accompanied by portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) has the poorest prognosis among other HCCs and there are no other prominent treatment options than systemic chemotherapy. In this study, we report ...

Transcatheter arterial infusion chemotherapy with a fine-powder formulation of cisplatin for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma refractory to transcatheter arterial chemoembolization.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the safety and efficacy of transcatheter arterial infusion chemotherapy using a fine-powder formulation of cisplatin for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma refractory to transcatheter arterial chemoembolization. METHODS We retrospectively examined the data of 84 consecutive patients with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization-refrac...

Regional Transcatheter Therapy of Hepatic Neoplasms.

BACKGROUND: Surgical resection of hepatocellular carcinomas and metastases to the liver cannot always be performed, and systemic therapies for these entities are of limited value. The techniques of chemoembolization and hepatic artery infusion have been used for patients who are not candidates for surgery. METHODS: Chemoembolization uses percutaneous intra-arterial infusion of chemotherapeutic ...

Comparison of combination therapies in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma: transarterial chemoembolization with radiofrequency ablation versus microwave ablation.

PURPOSE To compare retrospectively the outcomes and complications of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization with drug-eluting embolic agents combined with radiofrequency (RF) ablation or microwave (MW) ablation in treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). MATERIALS AND METHODS From 2003-2011, 89 patients with HCC received a combination therapy-transcatheter arterial chemoembolization plu...

Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma using polylactic acid microspheres containing aclarubicin hydrochloride.

Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization therapy using polylactic acid microspheres containing aclarubicin hydrochloride (ACR) was performed in 62 patients with primary hepatocellular carcinoma. These microspheres were about 200 microns in diameter and contained 10% (w/w) aclarubicin. A single dose of polylactic acid microspheres containing ACR (50-100 mg of ACR) was administered 1 to 8 times w...
